WEST BACKYARD BATTLE ON FRIDAY
The Thunderhawk boys earned a big GMC win at Mason Tuesday night defeating the Comets 53-51. The rivalry between these two league juggernauts was apparent as both teams played with a furious pace from the tip-off till the final buzzer.
Akron signee Nate Johnson helped Lakota East overcome a sluggish second quarter and a one-point halftime deficit by scoring eight of his team-high 19 points in the third frame. Early in the third quarter, sophomore Jack Kronauge hit a pair of free throws putting Lakota East back up 27-26 where they would stay. The closest Mason got in the fourth quarter was a bucket at the buzzer to make for the 53-51 final.
Kobe Peck who got into some early foul trouble, came off the bench to spark East with 11 points. There many significant contributions in the contest by all of the Hawk players.
East (5-2, 4-1) will host rival Lakota West (6-4, 4-2) this Friday night. The Hawks will play their third game of the week on Saturday when they host Colerain.
