The Hawks took on on the chin last Friday, losing their first GMC contest to Fairfield 60-57. East allowed the Indians to jump out to a 13 point lead early in the game and struggle in the first half to make any headway of catching up. East got outscored 33-19 in the first half of play.
To their credit, the Hawks woke up after the break and made a serious effort to get back in the game. But, the come from behind fell just short in the final ticks of the clock.
Nate Johnson led all scorers with a game-high 30. Kobe Peck was key in the Hawks resurgence, scoring 16, mostly all in the 2nd half.
East boys got back on the winning side of things on Saturday, outlasting a pesky Whitehall-Yearling by a 54-41 final. East never trailed in the contest and let 31-20 at the half. Nate Johnson’s 17 and Kobe Pecks 14 led the Hawks.
East goes to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the GMC. They will have a big test on Tuesday night when they play at Mason (4-1 GMC). East has already defeated the Comets once this season 65-63.
