The Lakota East women’s team continued to get hot, improve, and gain momentum into the post-season as they narrowly missed becoming Regional champions by just 3 points.  East finished 2nd to Centerville by a final score of 90-93.  The #2 Hawk behind Spletzer was senior teammate Kelsi Harris, who earned All-Regional honors, by placing 9th overall in 19:02.

Also medaling and earning all-Regional honors was sophomore Jocey Willis who placed 18th overall in 19:22.  Junior Dani Thorner placed an impressive 30th overall in her first Regional appearance.  Her time was 19:54.  Senior Paxton Oberhaus continues to race better and better and every week as she placed 42nd overall in 20:11.

Rounding out the top 7 for Lakota East were juniors Sarah Renfro (87th, 21:11) and Cali Reynolds (119th, 22:45).  Senior Anna Kluesener and sophomore Hope Keith were on hand as alternates for the team.

The 2019 Lakota East women’s cross country team achieved something that no other Lakota East cross country team has ever accomplished before.  They stood on the OHSAA State Cross Country podium and were handed the team 2019 State Runner-Up trophy.  This was the highest placing Lakota East team, men or women before that was 5th place.  What was even more impressive, is that they did it without putting a single runner on the top-20 individual podium.
