With a few of the regular varsity athletes taking the weekend off of racing, other Thunderhawk women stepped up and took advantage of the varsity race at the Milford Invitational on Saturday and put up many season-best times.  The top runner for the Hawks was senior Kasey Hanes who placed 73rd overall in a field of 183 runners.  Her time of 22:30 for the 5k (3.1 mile) race was a 2-second season-best time.

Right behind Kasey was senior Lauren McGarvey who knocked 1 minute, 24 seconds off of her previous season-best time by placing 82nd overall in 22:39.  Freshman Hope Keith finished right behind her senior teammate in 83rd place in 22:40, a 53-second season-best.  Rounding out the scoring for East was sophomore Jenna Rugg (90th, 22:52) and freshman Sophie Wilson (91st, 22:52).  Both of these performances were also huge season-best performances.  As a team, the Lady Hawks placed 14th out of 21 teams.

Next up for the Lakota East Cross Country team is the Trinity/Valkyrie Invitational in Louisville, KY, on September 21st, for the varsity girls.  The next full-squad meet will be the Fairmont Firebird Invitational at Indian Riffle Park on September, 28th.
