Lakota East opened the GMC schedule this past Friday and held at Mason, defeating the Comets 20-14.

East got things started in the 2nd quarter with two TD scores on a 1-yard dash by Tavier Lugo-Flowers and a Josh Thornhill 4-yard run. Mason added a score also and it was 14-7 at the half.

Gavin Myers hit a 32-yard FG in the third and a 25 yarder in the fourth. The Comets got back in the game late the fourth quarter, but the East defense was able to stop a Mason drive in the final seconds to secure their first GMC win of the year and keep Mason winless on the season.

The Hawks outgained Mason 387-149 yards on offense, dominating both sides of the ball. Flowers led the charge with 140 yards on 34 attempts and one TD. Thornhill was just a notch lower with 110 yards on only 10 carries and 1 TD. Charlie Kenrich ground out 60 yards on 9 carries.

East will host Homecoming this week when the Middies of Middletown (1-2) invade Hawk Territory. The Middies fell to Fairfield last week 47-7.
