Boys Varsity Basketball · Grant Spicer and Nate Johnson Named Putters Athletes of the Week

Grant is a senior on the Lakota East Boys Basketball Team.

Grant’s contributions to the Thunderhawk Boys Basketball Team have been immeasurable this season.  He has stepped into his role on the team as the Hawks primary “big” man after the loss of two teammates to injury.

Grant is usually counted on to stop the oppenents best frontline player in most games.  Throughout his four-year playing career for the Hawks, Grant has improved every area of his game.  He is a quiet and selfless leader on the floor, but a tenacious defender/rebounder with an outstanding 3-point shot.  He leads the GMC in Field Goal Percentage this season at 64.1%.

Nate is a sophomore on the Lakota East Boys Basketball Team.

Nate is a special player with unlimited potential.  This two-year varsity player is a big reason East will be playing for a District Title on Saturday.  He had one of his best games of the season vs. Princeton in the Sectional Championship, scoring 9 points, while more importantly providing ball handling and defensive contributions in a huge win.

Nate’s athletic style of play has created a highlight real in 2018-19.  His slashing dunk at Hamilton, in a tight game, ignited East to another win.  His contributions to helping other teammates find the basket has also been a huge plus this season.  Nate currently leads the GMC in assists averaging 3.3 per game.  His play during the remainder of the postseason will be extremely important to helping the Hawks advance.
