Multiple Teams · 2018-2019 Girls Basketball Outlook

The Lakota East girls basketball team took on Mercy McAuley in their home opener Saturday afternoon. Sydney Harrison led all scorers with 10 points, 6 of which came from beyond the arc. Megan Hatfield and Jordan Stanely followed with 4 points respectively. Maddie Bley led the defense with 2 steals. The Hawks cut the deficit in the second half to get within 6, but that would be as close as they could get as they lost a tough battle to Mercy McAuley 48-26.

The Hawks will look to bounce back in their next game at home on Wednesday, November 28th against Seton.

We are very excited about the start of this upcoming season!  This group will be challenged to balance a new coaching staff, new young talent, new expectations and new philosophies with the culture of support, excellence, friendship and effort that already existed.  This is no small task.

We are looking to develop a talented group of young players while relying heavily on a very experienced upper class who have a lot of pride in that Lakota East uniform!  Having 8 seniors and around 11 returning players with varsity experience, we feel as though we are going to be competitive every night.  If we continue to work as hard as we have throughout the off-season, our coaching staff is confident this group will find themselves in the middle of a very successful season and be a scary match-up for anyone come tournament time!

This group returns Jordan Stanley as last year’s leading scorer along with Jessica Motley who leads the team in rebounds.  The roster is relatively balanced with talent and extremely coach-able which should help us develop fast.  We are excited to get started and look forward to representing Lakota East High School this season!
