Boys Varsity Football · Football Heads to Playoffs!!!

In a “must win” situation on another dreary, rain-soaked Friday night, the Lakota East Thunderhawks took care of business defeating Sycamore 42-21 and cementing their place in the 2018 postseason. The Hawks led from the outset putting up 14 first quarter points. Sycamore pulled even in the third quarter before East rattled off 21 unanswered points to put the game out of reach of the Aves.

Once again East rode the back of its stellar athlete, Jack Dobrozsi who collected 184 yards on 25 carries and two TDs. QB Sean Church also had a significant hand in the outcome of the game, racing for 181 yards on the ground and 2 TD’s. Josh Thornhill got a key TD for East in the 1st quarter on a 60-yard jaunt from scrimmage. Gavin Myers was perfect all night with PAT attempts.

East earned the #7 seed in the postseason and will meet a very familiar foe. The Hawks will visit #2 seed Mason this Friday night at their Atrium Stadium, with kickoff at 7:00 pm. The two GMC rivals did not play in 2018, but East bested the Comets in a preseason scrimmage. Mason upset Fairfield in overtime 24-21 to earn a home playoff spot. The last meeting between the two schools was in the 2017 regular season with the Comets taking a 36-0 win.

The Thunderhawks last appeared in the playoffs in 2014. Mason is making their fourth consecutive playoff appearance.

Ticket information will be released on Tuesday. Congrats and good luck to all the players and coaches!
