It was truly an amazing day for the East Girls Track athletes at the State Championships at Jesse Owens Stadium this past weekend.
The Lakota High School 4×100 team of Abigail Stoughton, Kaylyn Heath, Danielle Stoughton and Serena Clark were crowned DI state champs Saturday night with a time of 47.21.
East sophomore Serena Clark was also second (11.80) to record-setter Abby Steiner of Dublin Coffman in the 100. Clark anchored the Thunderhawks to first in the 4×100 relay (47.21), but it was costly. She re-aggravated a strained quad that initially went lame at the district. That made her a scratch in the 200.
Danni Stoughton finished 10th overall in the 400 with a time of 57.50 which breaks her own school record again.
With a youthful contingent of Thunderhawk athletes returning next year, the future is extremely optimistic and bright for Lakota East Girls Track!
