It was a special day for a special Lakota East track athlete at the State Championships on June 2nd at Jesse Owens Stadium. Senior Dustin Horter raced to his 5th overall state title, winning the 1600m to a lineup of outstanding Ohio runners in a time of 4:0.96.
Horter, a University of Indiana signee, finishes his HS career as the most accomplished athlete in Lakota East (if not Lakota District ) history. Horter, who has over 4.0 grade-point average, won back-to-back Division I state cross country titles in 2016 and 2017. He was the state indoor and now the outdoor champion in the 1,600-meter run in 2017 and 2018. He won the national indoor title in the 1,600 at the New Balance Indoor National Meet on March 11 in New York. Horter finished third in the 3200m race on Saturday that took place approx. an hour after winning the grueling 1600.
Horter has won almost every conceivable award and honor that a high school athlete could capture. He is scheduled to compete in the Brooks PR Invitational Meet in Seattle on June 8.
Congratulations Dustin on all you have accomplished and all that you are! We can’t wait to see what your future holds!
