The East Varsity girls track team catapulted themselves to a third place team victory Friday night at Sycamore! There were 18 teams in total competing. It was truly a team effort; East had a top eight placer in almost every event! The girls are to be highly commended for their fine performances in 34 degree weather, accompanied by sleet, snow and rain at different points in the evening.
Danielle Horter (10) ran for third place in 11:42 and Carly Spletzer (9) ran for sixth (12:06) in the second to last race of the night, a 3200 meter run in very gusty and precipitous weather, which placed 50 athletes on the track at once, including both girls AND boys! It was truly epic!
Ali Neumeier (11) ran away with the 800 as the Champion in 2:26, Lindsey Kluesener (11) flew sky high, winning the pole vault in a PR of 11-00, a LE and tied District record, and Dani Stoughton (11) was second in the 400 meter, breaking a minute in 59.46! Other notable performances included: Heather Strauss, sophomore, fourth in the 400 (1:03.97), Kelsi Harris, freshman, fourth in the 1600 with a 5:38, Anna Kluesener, freshman, fourth in the 300m hurdles in 49.75, Holly Thompson, senior, fourth in the 800 in a time of 2:40, Kiyanna Woodruff, junior, fifth in the 100m hurdles in 17.65, Abby Stoughton, senior, seventh in the Long Jump with a leap of 15-10.5, Kayla Womack, sophomore, seventh in the 200m dash with a 29.12, and Mallory Hook, sophomore, eighth in the 100m dash in 13.47. In relay news, the 4×800 team, consisting of Paxton Oberhaus (9), Kaitlyn Smith (11), Hailey Wilson (10), and Rachel Anderson (9), placed sixth in a time of 11:06.30, and the 4x100m relay placed eighth in a time of 53.89 with Kiyanna Woodruff(11), Malory Hook (10), Dawn Hilton (10), and Zoe Lape (12).
