Lakota East suffered a heartbreaking 53-51 loss at the hands of Princeton at last Saturday’s district championship at UD Arena. After an East turnover with 24.2 seconds remaining, Princeton launched a trey from the top of the key in the final seconds. There was a scramble for the rebound and a Viking was fouled with 0.5 on the clock. Princeton’s Darius Hunter calmly converted two foul shots to clinch it.
East (16-9), making the third district appearance in program history, could not hold a 51-48 lead in the last minute and lost to the Vikings for the third time this season.
Senior Jarrett Cox led East with 19 points and playing his last game as a Hawk. Junior Bash Wieland scored 16 and Jackson See had 9 for the Thunderhawks, and Jalen Peck dished out five assists. East’s defense was very good all day, limiting the Vikings to 39.4-percent shooting.
The boys basketball program has a lot to be proud of even with the season ending loss. The season started out 4-5, and ended the regular season playing great basketball in January and February and winning a sectional title.
The Thunderhawks lose seven seniors: Jalen Peck, Jackson See, Jarrett Cox, Nate Honigford, Isaiah Flood, Corie Blount and Kolbe Fuhrmann.
