There was plenty of action from the beginning to end at the Hawks’ second-round tournament game against West Clermont in Batavia last evening. It took 90-minutes of regulation, two 15-minute overtime periods and penalty kicks for the Hawks to claim the 2-1 victory and move on to district semifinal round.
The West Clermont Wolves scored early in the second half of regulation. With 18 minutes left in the match, sophomore Alexis Trammel scored off a perfectly placed ball from senior Abby Stoughton to equal the score at 1-1, which remained the final at the end of regulation. Both teams played aggressive soccer throughout the two overtime periods, but some great defense and near misses kept the game locked up and ultimately headed to penalty kicks to decide the winner.
The Hawks’ PK shooters did their job, but it was junior keeper Madison Hart who came up huge for the Thunderhawks, with two fantastic layout saves to clinch the victory.
“We appreciated the fan support on Thursday evening and look forward to having plenty of fans in their Hawks gear in the stands on Monday to cheer us on to a victory,” said Head Coach Tom McEwan.
