The Lakota East girls track team had an extremely strong showing at the GMC Championships at Mason on Friday, placing in virtually every event! They placed second in the GMC with 101.5 points! Many notable performances were put in and it was truly a team effort.
Freshmen phenoms, Danielle Horter and Serena Clark were GMC Champions in the 3200 and the 100 and 200 respectively. Danielle gutted it out in the 3200 with a winning time of 11:22.76 and Serena gracefully sprinted her way to victory in the 200 with a winning time of 25.65.
One of the big races of the night was certainly Serena and Kaylyn Heath (10) in the 100. The two raced to a photo finish with amazing times of 12.23 and 12.24, with Serena first and KK placing second, very impressively.
Dani Stoughton (11) put in an incredible 400m race in a new East record of 58.75! Lindsey Kluesener (10) was able to vault herself to new heights with an amazing 10-00 pole vault, which ties the current Lakota East record and earned her second place!
Ali Neumeier was third in the 800 with a great time of 2:24.10. The 4×100 relay team of Serena Clark (9), Kaylyn Heath (10), Malory Hook (9), and Jasmine Floyd (12) placed second in a time of 49.0, and the 4×200 relay team consisting of Dani Stoughton (10), Serena Clark (9), Kaylyn Heath (10) and Jasmine Floyd (12) placed third in a time of 1:45.07.
The 4×400 relay placed second in a time of 4:13 and Kaitlyn Rhodes (12), Ali Neumeier (10), Zoe Lape (11) and Dani Stoughtion (11) all contributed to that race.
Finally, the big news of the night was that Serena Clark earned the title of GMC Runner of the Year! Congratulations to Serena!
It was really an incredible effort by every girl on the team, and each should be congratulated.
