East wins first playoff game
Lakota East hosted the first round of the Ohio High School Baseball playoffs Wednesday night beating Glen Este 8-0. Joseph Cooney was nothing but spectacular on the mound. Facing 24 batters, Cooney struck out 13 and only allowed 3 hits in the complete game shutout.
The Thunderhawks accumulated 14 hits overall scoring 8 runs in the game. The Hawks big inning came in the bottom of the 6th plating 5 of the 8 runs. Hunter Holt led off with a walk, followed by a great bunt single from Noah Smith. Kyle McDonough doubled down the left field line scoring Holt. Winston Owens was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Jefferson Szydlowski hit a hard ground ball up the middle to score 2 runs. Dylan Fry doubled to left to collect another run. John Sherman plated the last run of the inning with a sacrifice RBI. The offensive arsenal for the Hawks came from Noah Smith (2-4, RBI), Sam Sprockett (1-3), Kyle McDonough (1-1, RBI), Winston Owens (2-3, RBI), Jefferson Szydlowski (3-3, 2RBI), Zach Holliday (1-3, RBI), Dylan Fry (1-1, RBI), Zack Kozerski (1-4), Andrew Jaeger (1-3), and Jacob Owens (1-2).
Thunderhawk Season over in Heartbreaker
The Lakota East Baseball season came to an end Thursday night losing to Lebanon 2-1 in 9 innings. John Sherman was outstanding pitching 8 innings on 1 run baseball. He struck out 7 batters and only gave up 4 hits. Mitch Reardon came in for the 9th inning.
Unfortunately, the Hawks couldn’t string multiple hits together to plate more than one run. There were opportunities leaving 10 runners on the base pads. The Thunderhawk bats were led by Zack Holliday (2-4), Andrew Jaeger (1-3), Joseph Cooney (1-3), Noah Smith (1-3), and Sam Sprockett (1-4).
