Jon Spaulding (Sr., 285 lbs.) became a two-time State placer this past weekend by placing 3rd in the State Wrestling Tournament. As a junior last season, Jon placed 7th. This ranks Jon as the 6th Lakota East wrestler in history to become a multiple time State placer.
In the first round, Jon defeated Nick Daly (Oregon Clay) by a 5-1 decision. In the Quarterfinal round, Jon defeated Mo Debyan (Hilliard Darby) by a score of 2-1.
In the Semifinal round, Jon faced Kevin Vough (Elyria). Vough was a State Champion and 3x placer (3rd, 1st, 2nd), as well as a National Champion. Jon dropped a very hard fought 3-2 ultimate tiebreaker overtime decision. Vough went on to win the championship.
Spaulding bounced back like a champion and defeated Matt Lee (Amherst Steele) by a score of 3-1 in sudden victory overtime in the consolation semifinals. In the match for 3rd place, Jon defeated Jordan Earnest (Wadsworth) by a 3-1 margin.
John has marked himself as one of the most successful wrestlers in Lakota East history.
CONGRATULATIONS JON ON A REMARKABLE WRESTLING CAREER AT LAKOTA EAST!
